Main works: the outstanding Ukrainian archaeologist, organizer of museum and cultural heritage protection activities.
Member of 13 scientific societies of Russian Empire. Member of five archaeological conferences. One of the founders (1899) of the Kyiv City Museum of Antiquity and Art, was in charge of archaeological department of the museum. He was an agriculturist, founded “Rosychka”, new sort of millet in Russia, discovered new equipment for the hop plant nursery and drying, for which he was awarded with the special medals at the agricultural exhibitions in Romny (1884), Kharkiv (1887) and Paris (1889). For his agronomic discoveries he was voted a member of the French National Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Academy. He was a Czech of origin. In 1864 graduated from Commercial School in Khrudyme city. In 1876 came to Russian Empire, lived in Kyiv. In his 43 years old began archaeological studies. In 1893-1903 researched Kyrylivska palaeolithic site, in 1896 discovered the first antiques of Trypillia Culture in Middle Prydniprovia Region. He studies artefacts of the Bronze age, horodyshcha and kurgans (hills) of Scythian age and antiquities of eastern Slavonic people of 7-10th centuries, Kyiv Rus (Kyiv foremost, diggings of Kyselivka and Starokyivska Hills), Hetman’s capital city in Chyhyryn. Elaborate the autochthonous theory of permanent development of Slavonic habitants on the territory of Ukraine from the Stone age, first grain-growers of Trypillia culture to Kyiv Rus age, ХХ century. One of Kyiv streets is called in the honor of Khvoika. His statues are fixed up in Kyiv and Trypillia village. In 2000 the National Bank of Ukraine issued two Hryvnia coin with Khvoika’s portrait. Academy of Science of Ukraine, Ukrainian Society of History and Culture Heritage Protection settled Khvoika Award for outstanding discoveries in archaeology studies. Literature: Cherniakov I.
