By the good tradition, from St. Nicolas’ Day to St. Valentine’s Day, National Art Museum of Ukraine organizes an exhibition for children, teenagers and everybody interested within the program “Living Art”. This is a “serial” project, which goal is to come nearer to understanding of the alphabet of fine arts. This year our attention was drawn to sculpture.

The retrospective exhibition of Mark Epstein’s works in the National Art Museum of Ukraine is the first attempt to show all the dimensions of art of this talented Kyiv avant-garde artist. As a sculptor, graphic artist, theatre artist, Mark Epstein was a prominent figure in Kyiv art life in the 1920’s. In 1918, after the finishing of Kyiv Art College, he attended O. Ekster’s studio, which acted as an experimental space for new creative ideas. His cubofuturistic works of the first half of the 1920’s (“The Cello Player”, “Family”, “The Tailor”, “Two”, “Dairymaid”) became the part of the history of Ukrainian modern art.
