Francisco de Goya
 “LOS CAPRICHOS”

The exhibition opened in three halls of the second museum floor had 80 papers of the world famous series “Los Caprichos” by the outstanding Spanish artist Francisco Goya from the collection of Goya’s Cultural Heritage Fuendetodos Consortium.

Francisco de Goya, as he often is called the “Father of the contemporary art” or the “First modern artist”, started his artistic career at the late baroque epoch. Expressing his thoughts and feelings straight out he became the pioneer of the new art tendencies that marked the beginning of XIX century. In order to understand the immensity, the depth and phenomenal many-sided character of the artist’s oeuvre, it is important to remember that Goya created his works for 60 years (he kept working until he was 82 years old!). It is clearly shown by the example of Goya’s outworld attitude changing – early in life he perceived its happy side and in his mature years he treated the reality in a critical way, which had resulted in disappointment in people and social system at the close of his days. In addition the world underwent profound changes during the life of the artist. The society Goya had achieved the great success in was destroyed within Napoleon wars. Shortly till the end of XVIII century the artist had already felt the ideals of the new epoch and reflected ones in his graphic series and pictures.
