“Noyiv Kovcheh (Noah's Ark)”. Ukrainian Painting of the second part of ХХ century

Painting
Curator: Olha Petrova

People associate “Noyiv Kovcheh (Noah’s Ark)” with the Flood and Humanity Salvation. This salvation is a hope that the Flood is left behind and now one can look about without a fear and recollect each person in his memory… A wish not to left a blind-spot in Ukrainian art history of 60th — 90th of ХХ century inspired “Ukrainian Art of XX century” project initiators to organization of this exhibition, which had over 69 works of Ukrainian artists.

“Noyiv Kovcheh (Noah’s Ark)” represent not all, but the most significant directions of the Ukrainian art of half-century: social realism, realism, underground, “severe style”, folklorism, impressionism, lyricism, retro-classic, nonfigurative art, expressionism and phonism, metaphorism and polistilism. Each of this direction is represented with several names. Exposition “Noyiv Kovcheh (Noah’s Ark)” is developed base on the definition of the most emphatic style lines and works. This exhibition shows the artistic life of Ukrain in the second half of XX century in the most expressive and multifaceted way. It is proved by the volume of the exposition and high art history professionalism used for creating of its concept.

The main idea of “Noyiv Kovcheh (Noah’s Ark)” is in necessity of Ukrainian history and art past rethinking, because according to Nietzsche “a real life expression is not a history, but art”.
