Mikalous Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875–1911)
“A Fantastic World of Symbols, Light and Harmony”
Fascimiles

The exhibition shows 88 fascimile copies of Ciurlionis’s artworks. Since 2000, the Memorial Centre of Culture “The House of Ciurlionis in Vilnius” with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania organizes exhibitions and concerts abroad, dedicated to Mikalous Ciurlionis - one of the brightest representatives of Lithuanian professional music and great artist. For already a century his art remains a topic for vivid discussions.

The aim of the organizers was to show the oeuvre of the artist from his first canvases created in 1904-1905 (Truth, Tranquility and others) to the works of 1908-1909 (sonatas, fugues, Rex).
The works are not shown chronologically, but divided into the themes: cycles of nature (winter, spring, summer, etc.); cosmos and music; studies of different years; graphic works; photographic sketches of 1905.

The heritage of the artist is impressive: more than 200 musical works and as many artworks. Ciurlionis was called a spiritual brother of such prominent figures of the 20th century as R.Rolan, N.Roerich, A.Benois, M.Dobuzhinsky, A.Skriabin, Yu.Baltrushaitis, O.Messiaen, J.Livshits, among others.  They considered his work to be one of the most thrilling and touching phenomenon of the Symbolist epoch…
