Landscapes of Ukraine, Russia and Armenia created in various years
(from student sketches till the last pastels by the artist)

The exhibition represents oeuvre of the artist, whose works are the integral part of full and actual picture of previous century’s Ukrainian art development. Works by Boris Rappoport are the precious objects of many museum and private collections in Ukraine and world-wide.

Rappoport’s teachers from Kyiv Art School and Kyiv Art Institute – K.Trohymenko, O.Fomin, O.Ruban, I.Khvorostetskiy, P.Svitlytskiy, I.Shtilman – helped the young artists to find his art way and his individual intonation, the things that had always differentiated works by Boris Rappoport in any exposition.
One of the first solitary work by the graduate of Art Institute’s landscape studio called “Kolkhoz Spring”, was bought by the State Ukrainian Museum (at present – the National Art Museum of Ukraine).

«Avoid falsehood, salon, repetition colors… Not borrowing the effective methods and motives from the colleagues, nor from the great masters – only the things that you will discover from the nature can become the art” – these words by O.Fomin, the first teacher of Boris Rappoport, may be the key to understanding of B.Rappoport’s phenomenon.

«It is hard to find an artist, who doesn’t create landscape paintings: everyday communication with the nature is as necessary for the artists as the air. But there are few real artists, landscaper painters by the calling. Boris Rappoport is one of them. I have been watching the artistic development of this talented painter for long time – from the days, when he, being a student of Kyiv Secondary Art School, attracted the attention of his teachers with the powerful and unique gift... Rappoport’s teachers in the Art School and Institute aspired to develop his vivid feeling of nature and the gentle painting and colorful skills...»
K.D.Trokhymenko, the USSR People’s Artist, 1960

Magic of everyday motives, undemanding stories, regularity of the change from winter to summer with the fixation of the most detailed phases and gradations of this change...

«Almost always there are things that you’ve already seen in his pictures. But you didn’t turn your attention to the feelings created by the seen. And the artists in his magic way returned these to you. And suddenly you understand that these had been your own feelings, very important for you...»
V.L.Kyseliov, writer, 1978
