Donrosa

21 May – 27 June 2010

“Donrosa” is a logical and emotional completion of the series/cycle/chronicle “Gardens”, Makov has been working on over 5 years.
Despite of its name and time of creation, “Donrosa” is a project without politics. Perhaps, it is the last association, which comes to our mind, but Donetsk is a city of thousands roses. At least, it used to be so. And this past of the big industrial monster has become the reason for the exhibition (which consists of only one picture). The city of thousands roses is a weird place, where all that exists above the ground owes to all that happens underground. Thus we have the ontological oppositions: Paradise and Hell. These oppositions always remain actual for Makov, because for him underground is the only way to preserve himself.
Rose is a “labyrinth plants”, full of translucency of senses and inversions; a symbol of death as well as of passionate love and devotion. Quite appropriate flower for the labyrinth garden.
