Yevhen Prokopov and Alla Rogers
The Allusions of Amigdala
Sculpture, painting

09.11.2007-09.12.2007
Opening: 09. 11.2007 at 5 p.m.

Curator: Iryna Voziyanova

Yevhen Prokopov was born in 1950 in Kyiv. He graduated from Kyiv State Art Institute  in 1975 and participated in the artistic workshops of the USSR Academy of Art in 1980. His art professor at the Institute was Vasyl Boroday. He is a member of the National Artists’ Union of Ukraine since 1978; in 1989 he received the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine.

„…the artist was inspired by the investigations of contemporary psychologists, philosophers and bioenergeticians in the field of the research of the unique almond-shaped organ, which is situated in our brain – the amygdala.   This organ appears to be connected with the emotional life and memory. It makes us sensitive to the memories and images of the past and to the flow of time…”

Alla Rogers was born in 1947 in Germany into the family of immigrants. In 1948 the family immigrated to Australia and in 1955 they settled in the USA.

”Ukrainian and English remain Alla’s native languages. She has managed a lot in her life.  She studied ballet dancing… and she became a professional.  Much later, she became similarly enthusiastic about painting, and in 1990 she opened her own gallery – Alla Rogers Gallery, whose aim is to popularize the art from Eastern Europe. … her personal exhibition is dedicated to the journeys around the Universe. Here she coincides with Prokopov. Alla’s way into abstraction was guided by Simon Governor, a metaphysical symbolist. She considers Kandinsky’s essay On the Spiritual in Art a significant work…With the help of geometry and color she travels into the infinity of space, aspiring to touch the unknown…She works in the popular in America acrylic technique in combination with gold leaf and silver.”
