Exhibition of Myroslav Yahoda.

Curator: Olena Hrozovska, Tetiana Zhmurko

"YA + GOD = A" is a large-scale project dedicated to the art of the unique Lviv artist Myroslav Yahoda. His legacy includes paintings, graphics, poetry, plays, video art. The imaginative and fantastic nature of his images finds no analogy in the works of other artists.

The name of the exhibition "YA + GOD = A" is the formula of Myroslav Yahoda's poetic manifesto. The artist dissects and reassembles his last name, unfolding the alphabet in reverse order from the last to the first letter, from the isolated individual "YA (I)" to the beginning – Alpha, through the cornerstone – the presence of God.

His legacy includes paintings, graphics, poetry, plays, video art. The imaginative and fantastic nature of his images finds no analogy in the works of other artists. Yahoda's character was formed in the late 1980s – 1990s, at a time of active social and cultural transformation, the collapse of political systems, the absence of stable moral rules and regulations.

His art is characterized by transgressiveness, it is a painful search for new landmarks and constant attempts to find a place in the world.

At the same time, his work is difficult to fit into a given framework: he breaks stereotypes, combining the lowly and the sublime, experience and immediacy, moving from the biblical parables to burning issues. He balances on the verge of grotesque but does not slip into ironic postmodern juggling of meanings and quotes. In broad terms, Yahoda's painting continues the line of  Goya – Munch – Baselitz.
