28.09.2020 Lecture: Art of Kyivan Rus
We are starting new lecture season at NAMU!
Renovation works will not interfere with the lecture season 2020/2021. This Saturday, October 3, the museum begins a series of online lectures in Zoom, dedicated to Ukrainian art from Kyivan Rus to the contemporary art. Speakers are museum scientists, the best experts in art history, who study individual periods and will gladly share their knowledge.
And we will open the lecture season with a conversation about the art of Kyivan Rus. What did Kyiv look like 1000 years ago? What has survived to this day, and what are only mentioned? Olha Shamshetdinova, a senior researcher at the Department of Medieval Art at NAMU, will talk not only about the key buildings and works of art of this era, but also draw attention to the points of interest.
Did you know, for example, that in the Saint Sophia of Kyiv, in addition to sacred art, there was once a place for secular frescoes? Portraits of the princely family, the battle with the bear, fun music and even the whole Constantinople racetrack!
Find out the reasons for such images in the temple and much more this Saturday, October 3, at 12:00.
