Monotonous, “humble” color grade of Serhiy Zhyvotkov is the result of his searches of the clear painting tonality. Noble mix of new, “cozy” color range dominates in his works. His “Venice series” presents a city with no exotic story on carnivals and Carlo Goldoni’s heroes. Instead of it there’s a dream on Venice a sunrise or dusk city and not naked limelight, nor city “shop windows”, but its so far unseen view.
His compositions are elegant, sometimes “cold”, but always clear, with a triple “bottom” of painting layers. Serhiy Zhyvotkov is fond of one motive development, as in sketches series of cross-like constructed sailing-ships with verticals of needles-towers-masts sleeping in lagoon. Thingism of the artist stands on a solid ground – it can be a hill, house, human figure or even…the skies. Everything has its form, even smoke, said Ingres. Form has it all, said Serhiy. Or all his paintings prove that for him…
