Anatoliy Furlet (painting, Kyiv) and puppet performances “Ukrainian Vertep,” performed by the actor and director of the “Theatre of Metamorphosis” Volodymyr Zavalniuk (Kyiv)
The project is interesting because it suggests a non-traditional, but very fertile cooperation between the theatre and the museum. Once it was a museum exhibit that inspired the actor and theatre director Volodymyr Zavalniuk to reproduce a unique puppet performance entitled “Ukrainian Vertep.” The storage rooms of the Theatre Museum provided him with the necessary materials. Thus, a new version of Sokyryns’kyi (Halahanivs’kyi) vertep, dating back to the 17th century (and protected by UNESCO), was born. Addressing the tradition of vertep drama as a type of artistic thinking, now Zavalniuk uses it to depict moods and events of contemporary life.
The performances were supported by the charitable organization “Children Are Our Future” and “Renaissance” international foundation.
