Painting of Joy: Works of Japan Artists of the 1990’s
17 September – 17 October 2010

The National Art Museum of Ukraine and Embassy of Japan in Ukraine within the “Month of Japan in Ukraine 2010” present the exhibition “Painting of Joy: Works of Japan Artists of the 1990’s”.
The exhibition, which has been shown in half of the world in the last 10 years, presents 28 works of 9 contemporary highly estimated Japan artists: Aida Makoto, Echidzenja Yoshytaka, Kobayashi Takanobu, Chiedzo Taro, Nara Yoshimoto, Nukata Nobuhiko, Fukuda Miran, Maruyama Naofumi, and the third of the most highly estimated artists in the world (known also for his cooperation with the trade mark Louis Viton) Murakami Takashi.
The artists, whose works are represented on this exhibition, were born in the late 1950’s – early 1960’s. They grew up in the period, when Japan achieved the high level of economic development, and passed through all the changes, occurring within the country. They reinvented painting, which had been considered the “dead form” after numerous formalistic experiments, and liberated it from the narrow frames of “Art”. Their goal is to make painting the open space for communication.
