Within the framework of the seminar "Creating Ruin: Theoretizing the ruins", Method Fund invites to the discussion "Theorizing the ruins: Institutional archives" - conversation with institutions involved in the processes of historization, about the principles of archiving and their role in forming a narrative about contemporary art in Ukraine.
What is the speed of the archive? The activation of research projects in recent years demonstrates the acceleration and the desire to fill numerous gaps in the history of contemporary art in Ukraine. The rapid packaging of processes and phenomena into separate narratives (which are not as conflicting as they do not notice each other) can be interpreted as a desire to catch up - to normalize Ukrainian art for the sake of its demonstration. Such an interpretation may be false, but it arises from the very situation where the principles that underpin such projects, their methods of activity, developmental strategies and goals remain unpatented. Public, private and self-organized initiatives have different optics, capabilities and loudness, but their activities already capture certain (often unambiguous) interpretations of the past that directly affect the field of contemporary art. How does this influence be reflected by the researchers themselves? How in general such initiatives see themselves among other actors?
The Method Fund has invited research initiatives and artists working on the issues of historicization of art and archival policies. We asked "how do institutions relate their activities to the field of contemporary art in Ukraine?" And we offer a talk about how, how and what the history of contemporary art is created.

The seminar "Creating Ruin: Theorizing Destructions" aims to bring together researchers and artists interested in discussing political and aesthetic approaches to the theorizing of memory and history of the countries of Eastern and Central Europe, in particular, in Ukraine.
