Oleksandra Ekster is famous as an avant-garde painter, scenography reformer, girlfriend of Fernand Leger and Guillaume Apolliner, but few know that she was the first architect to design our museum exhibit and actively participated in the preparation of the first Applied Art Exhibition (which opened February 19, 1906).
She loved the exterior of Ukrainian folk art throughout her life, and even in emigration, in her home in the suburbs of Fontaine-o-Roz, everything was made with Ukrainian ceramics. Famous actress Alice Coonen (wife of theater director Alexander Tairov) wrote in her memoirs: "In her house, as well as in herself, an interesting combination of European culture and Ukrainian way of life was striking."
